ATTORNEY PROFILE

C. Keith Pope has practiced law since 1989. After receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado School of Law, where he received the Legal Aid Award for excellence in the defense of the indigent accused, Mr. Pope was a Deputy State Public Defender until 1998. He served in the Denver, Steamboat Springs, and Brighton trial offices and, for two years, in the appellate division of the Colorado State Public Defender. He has represented hundreds of clients on charges ranging from driving under the influence to first-degree murder, securing dismissals, acquittals, and reduced charges.

Mr. Pope has continued to defend traffic, misdemeanor, and felony charges since he began accepting private clients in 1998 and has remained dedicated to protecting the rights of the indigent accused, regularly accepting court appointments to represent those too poor to afford a lawyer. He is licensed and experienced in the municipal, county, and district courts of Colorado, the Colorado Court of Appeals, the Colorado Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a longtime member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar.

Respected by peers and prosecutors alike as an innovative, aggressive, and dynamic defender throughout the pretrial, trial, appeal, and post-conviction stages of the criminal process, Mr. Pope's thorough preparation and courtroom reputation prevent most cases from ever going to trial. When a reasonable resolution short of trial cannot be secured, he defends his clients to the fullest during pretrial hearings and at trial and, if necessary, on appeal and beyond.
